What is 3D Printing Filament

Filament is the material used to create 3D-printed products. It comes wound on a spool and is fed into a 3D printer, where it is heated and carefully applied one layer at a time to build the finished item.

Because every product is created layer by layer, small lines, joins or minor surface variations may be visible. These are normal characteristics of 3D printing and are not considered faults.

What Is PLA?

PLA, or Polylactic Acid, is one of the most commonly used 3D-printing filaments. It is lightweight, holds detail well and is available in a wide range of colours and finishes.

PLA

Standard PLA has a smooth finish with a slight natural sheen. It provides clear detail and is a practical choice for everyday decorative and functional products.

PLA Matte

PLA Matte has a soft, non-shiny finish. It reduces glare, disguises layer lines and gives the finished product a clean, modern appearance.

PLA Silk

PLA Silk has a smooth, glossy finish designed to reflect light and create a metallic or silky appearance. It is ideal for decorative products where colour and shine are part of the design.

Silk PLA can show scratches, marks and layer variations more easily than standard or matte PLA, so it should be handled with a little extra care.

Colours and finishes may look slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings. Different filament types may also produce small variations in colour, texture and sheen.

PLA products are not heat-resistant and may soften or warp in high temperatures. Keep them away from hot cars, direct sunlight, heaters and other heat sources.
